short coats or “Chupa corta” were specific for Spain’s frontier soldier named Presidial Soldados,Spanish soldiers assigned to the wild ends of the Spanish frontier at forts or presidios. These men were nicknamed “Soldados de Cuera”, for their white deerskin armer-like coats they wore over these short coats. These coats were worn from 1772 to 1792 when replace with the new style with tails but were back in use by 1793 till about 1812.
